    The Data Architect is a key member of the MDA DE/S Enterprise Engineering team and is responsible for assisting in the design of the requirements, design, architecture, implementation, and governance of data architectures and data management systems supporting system level Modeling and Simulation systems. This position will work across a broad range of issues and policy areas by developing and employing technologies such as data pipelines, data services, operational data stores, data warehouses, data marts, big data stores leading to statistical inference, data mining and visualization, experiment design, and advanced insights. The right individual will display both a passion for answering difficult or ambiguous questions with data science and leading a cultural change in how data is used throughout the organization these efforts.


    • Create a fluid, end-to-end vision for how simulation data is used and flows through the MDA and the simulation system
    • Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging simulation data to drive MDA, BMDS, M&S solutions
    • Recommends solutions particularly cloud technology and data management solutions
    • Follows best-practices for architecture principles, standards, guidelines and concepts
    • In collaboration with the users, creates and maintains data governance process
    • Design data solutions using API’s and integrating data access layers across systems
    • Advocate, Design, develop, and deliver analytic solutions that challenge assumptions and expand thinking of what is possible
    • Implements cloud based data solutions using new or emerging technologies
    • Implements data solutions using API’s and integrating data access layers across systems
    • Drives the data architecture, development and application of capabilities
    • Partners with technology teams to implement appropriate technical approaches for integration
    • Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets
    • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy


    • Experience:

      • A minimum of 10 years of industry experience with IT and information management
      • A minimum 5 years as a data architect
      • A minimum of 3 years of hands on experience in applying data science techniques to real business intelligence problems


      • S. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent required
      • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Statics, or related discipline strongly preferred.


      • Strong understanding of missile defense and the Ballistic missile defense system
      • Strong understanding of modeling and simulation
      • Familiarity with MBSE and SysML
      • Knowledge of available cloud-based data architecture solutions
      • Knowledge of data modeling techniques and tools
      • Familiarity with Project and Systems Development Life Cycle Methodologies
      • Familiarity with standard IT practices related to application development and implementation
      • Understanding of how to apply statistical and predictive modeling, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and other algorithms within a business context
      • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural Networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks is preferred


      • Foundation in systems development life cycle, software project management approaches, and requirements, design, and test techniques
      • Ability to conceptualize and influence application and interface projects by understanding what advice to give and where to plug in to steer toward desirable outcomes
      • Core skill depth in data modeling and database design effective and sound across all phases of data modeling, from conceptualization to optimization
      • Experience in established and emerging data technologies, established data management and reporting technologies, like columnar, Hadoop, and NoSQL databases, predictive analytics, data visualization, and unstructured data
      • Ability to conceive and portray the big data picture by mapping the systems and interfaces used to manage data, sets standards for data management, analyzes current state and conceives desired future state, and conceives projects needed to close the gap between current state
      • and future goals
      • Ability to astutely operate within the organization to emphasize methodology, modeling, and governance, technologically and politically neutral, articulate, persuasive, and enthusiastic
      • Experience with data and visualization tools like Micro strategy, Tableau, is preferred
      • Proficiency in Python, R, Matlab, C++, SQL is preferred
      • Strong written and oral communication skills, including technical & functional documentation, presentation materials and status reporting
      • Capable of translating business needs into technical specifications
      • Must be self-motivated with a proven track record in leading architecture and delivery of enterprise data platforms
      • Comfortable in a consensus building environment with multiple priorities and a highly demanding customer base.
      • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of customers
      • Ability to lead effective meetings that are tailored to the audience
