    The Junior Analyst will provide analysis for research and development activities, within a team, associated with directed energy (DE) weapons in a mission context (realistic military scenarios) using modeling and simulation (M&S).  Mission contexts include the threats, sensors, weapons, command and control (C2), and the platforms that support these sensors, weapons and C2 (aircraft, vehicles, fixed ground units, etc.).  The missions are played out in controlled experiments to determine the military utility of various scenarios and combinations of systems.

    The Junior Analyst will develop scenarios, and systems in an M&S environment by scripting of system behavior.  This development will require direct communication with scientists, developers, and warfighters to ensure correct representation of system capabilities.  The Junior Analyst will support the preparation, execution, analysis, and reporting of military utility studies, to include written and oral reports and presentations.


    Travel will be required.  Estimate four trips per year with a duration of four days, each.     



    New Hire Success Factors :

    • 30 days Understanding of RDMW mission and role of M&S in that mission.  Preliminary understanding of M&S tools used in RDMW
    • 60 days Ability to script in AFSIM.  Capability to use Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
    • 90 days Preliminary understanding of use of M&S tools to produce data for analysis.  Preliminary understanding of use of analysis tools (MATLAB, jmp, spreadsheets, etc.)


    • Bachelor’s degree in analysis or science (operations research, computer science, computer engineering, engineering, physics, mathematics, etc.)
    • Strong listening, reasoning, problem solving, and communication skills
    • Ability to assimilate concepts across several disciplines
    • Understanding of experimental design, execution, analysis and reporting (e.g., test and evaluation)
    • Understanding of the use of M&S or software in problem solving
    • Strong ability to use common office tools in a network environment: Word processors, spreadsheets, e-mail, etc.
    • Recommended:
    • Experience with MATLAB or jmp
    • Experience with C++, Java
    • Experience with M&S, such as AFNES, AFSIM, Simulink
    • Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
    • Experience with test planning, conduct, analysis, and reporting
    • Knowledge of directed energy weapons (lasers and high power microwaves)
    • Knowledge of military (particularly Air Force) operations
    • This position requires a Secret Security Clearance. Must be a U.S. citizen to be considered fo this position.
